The Wet and Dry Markets in Hong Kong

It was a very interesting day of touring. The first stop was a temple that was dark and filled with a strong smell of burning incense. Again, a different temple experience.

The markets were fascinating. The wet markets sold fresh meat, fish and vegetables. The explanation for no refrigeration of all the fresh meat, which was being butchered as we watched, was that it would all be sold by day’s end. The people go to the market every day, sometimes multiple times a day.

The dry market was even more fascinating. The goods were sold in wholesale bulk. Dried fish, dried mushrooms, bark, plants and who knows what. There were a lot of herbal medicine shops in this market.

Imagine American nuts among so much exotic food

The tour included a ride on the ding-ding, which is the local name for the double decker movable antique tram. We also stopped at a very local café for egg tart and tea.
